Watford Cycle Hub The Pavilion Chaffinch Lane Watford

This is a brand new Watford Cycle Hub route for you to challenge yourself! : ) It takes us the 'Super Scenic Route to St. Albans' - 32 miles, with 434 metres of climbing in total. As a guide in comparison, our popular 28 mile 'Whelpley Hill' route has 243 metres of climbing - so this is uping the challenge level a bit! : ) This ride builds on 'Lovely Lanes' and takes us through to Chipperfield via the ever lovely 'under the heavens' Plough Lane / Bottom Lane route, and then up Ollieberrie / Holly Hedges Lane. As with the Chipperfield - Abbots Langley Loop we do the 'Chipperfield - Bedmond Big Dipper' - descending Bulstrode & Rucklers Lane before climbing Hyde Lane to Bedmond. We then turn at the Tin Church to follow the lanes to St. Albans which form a wonderful countryside road circuit tucked away between Bedmond, Chiswell Green and St. Albans - if you've never explored this lane network - we'll take you one way on the way out & back another - so you get a feel for these lovely lanes to perhaps go back & explore or train on later! : ) At St. Albans, we'll stop at the Inn-on-the-Park & your ride leader Georgia is happy for you to have free time in the Cathedral City to then re-group before heading back together. After again routing through the St. Albans / Chiswell Green / Bedmond country lane road circuit, we'll take the same fast, smooth road route back to Watford, as the Chipperfield -Abbots Loop does - so via Abbots Langley and descending Gallows Hill Lane. We'll meander back through Nascot and the Cassiobury Estate, through Cassiobury Park and back to the Hub. This ride will be paced to average 10-12 mph over the route - though your Ride Leader will take account of the conditions on the day as to appropriate ride pacing - but as of time of writing -the conditions look great with Winter sun, low wind and no frost! : ) This route could also be done again once the clocks change - so if you love the sound of the route, but think this pace might be too fast for you currently, we can put this ride on again at a slower pace, once the longer daylight hours kick in so you won't miss out! : ) Hope to ride with you on Sunday & really looking forward to sharing with you a route I love! : ) All the best, Georgia Kit Advice Please bring: - Two Spare Inner Tubes A Drink & Snacks Appropriate Clothing for the temperature / wind rating A backpack or panniers may be a help so you can take off / put on more layers as need be, and stow away safely. Facilities at Watford Cycle Hub There is free car parking at Watford Cycle Hub, toilets, free use of our track pump and the opportunity to come into our warm and cosy social area and enjoy a cuppa before we set off if you arrive in good time. : ) If You Need to Cancel Your Place or are Running Late Please cancel your place on the GoSkyRide System or call Watford Cycle Hub: 01923 223994 - if you want to drop out once signed on or are running late - if we know we can wait a little while, but with a longer ride, in Winter, if at all possible, we need to be off promptly around 10am. If you have any issues with your bike, please get it checked out before the day of the ride. The Watford Cycle Hub team will be happy to help you if you want to bring your bike in before Sunday - we are open every day - except Monday.
