A lovely seaside route.

This is a lovely seaside route. Very remote in places. We will cross an often submerged road and on to visit Sambo's grave. Steeped in history. We will have to walk with the bikes across the beach for a short distance.

Quite a lot of traffic free, cycling infrastructure. Mainly quiet lanes and a tiny bit of busy roads. VERY flat !!

This is an iconic place to visit. A very remote peninsula of Lancashire. Here there is a small but historic grave of an unnamed slave, hence the name Sambo. Sambo was the name given to male slaves. Classed as racist these days. However this grave shows people were beginning to realise how wrong slavery was. It has been looked after by the local community for over 300 years. The second iconic stop is the Rotunda Bar at the Midland Hotel. A beautifully restored art deco hotel. I stopped here when I did coast to coast over ten years ago. I visited a lot since then. Also we will take a stroll down the pier infront of the Midland, again beautifully restored. https://www.sunderlandpoint.net/sambos-grave https://www.inncollectiongroup.com/the-midland-hotel/rotunda-bar/

No helmet no ride. Although it is a remote area. Usual water/drinks. There is a chance of a quick pit stop just after the grave. Local caravan park with hot drinks & loos.

We never leave anyone behind
