There are two social ride routes, north and south, which are alternated each week, taking in some of Leicestershire’s scenic countryside and country lanes. A 30 minute cafe stop is included.
Meeting point is Desford Crossroads (at the bus stop opposite the A47 Petrol Station) at 10.00am returning to the same place for approximately 1pm.
Anyone joining the social ride must be able to keep up a minimum pace of 10mph on flat roads. The ride pace on the day will then be adjusted accordingly to the slowest paced riders (minimum 10mph) in order to keep the ride as a group. The group will always stop and wait after each of the few short hills we climb until the last rider has rejoined the group, so you will not get left behind. Most new riders will be able to manage 10mph on flat roads without problem, however if you are concerned or worried that you may not be able to keep up, send an email to [email protected]
and we will be more than happy to assist you and assess if the ride is suitable to you.
Ride leaders will be on hand most weekends to guide you around the routes, keep the group together and to help those who encounter mechanical difficulties, punctures, etc. A ride leader (when available) will always assist the riders at the back who maybe struggling to ensure everyone completes the ride safely. Weekly posts of the Sunday Social Ride will be made on the club’s website forum events page and also on Facebook so we recommend you check these.
Occasionally it cannot be guaranteed that a ride leader will be available that day. A note will be put onto the weekly advertised ride at least 24hrs before the ride when this occurs. At these times other riders can still meet up and enjoy a ride together if they want to. The ride will still be advertised each week on the club’s website forum events page and Facebook. It is recommended that you post on either of these to check if other riders will be joining you.
All juniors under the age of 18 years may join the ride providing they bring along a signed parental consent form or are members of the club. Juniors under 16 years must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. Juniors aged 16-17 years may join the ride alone providing that there is a ride leader available that weekend (see above).
The Sunday social ride will only be cancelled due to extreme weather conditions and a ride leader will advise everyone of this on the Facebook forum and club’s website events page at least 2 hours before the start of the ride. Please check either of these before leaving home to ensure the ride has not been cancelled.
So what are you waiting for, come out and enjoy a Sunday social ride with Leicester Forest Cycling Club.
