Starting point

Midlothian
EH30 9RT

A wee grand tour round the Firth of Forth, starting at South Queensferry, heading north across the Bridge and turning west to follow the Fife Coastal Route, through Limekilns and Charlestown, past Torrie Bay Nature Reserve, onto Kincardine for coffee / food, and then back over the Forth at Clackmannan Bridge, passing the RSPB Skinflats to say hello to the mythical Kelpies - Baron and Duke. The ice cream / snack van will hopefully be on hand. We will then weave our way through Grangemouth via Kinneil Estate, to Bo’ness and pick up the John Muir Way to Blackness Castle, past Hopetoun House and back to South Queensferry.
It is a beautiful but challenging 43 miles with climbing of 1476' which is equivalent to cycling five times round Arthurs Seat to put into perspective.

We will be on a mix of roads, shared paths and gravel. The gravel paths just before Blackness and through Hopetoun estate are suitable for hybrid, gravel or mountain bike tyres. The gravel paths are not really suitable for road bikes unless you have bigger tyres and good handling skills on gravel. When we are on the shared paths, we will likely pass walkers, dogs and horses and ponies, maybe tiny humans on balance bikes, so please stay safe and keep other path users safe.

Coffee / food: We will stop at Marcos Kitchen in Kincardine. And we will also stop at the Kelpies for photos and ice cream!

Please bring the following with you: Bike in good working order, a helmet, spare inner-tube / puncture repair kit or a means of getting home in the event of a puncture / mechanical, a bike lock if you have one, card or cash payment if you want to buy anything. Come prepared for 4 season as the Forth can be quite changeable so layers and a waterproof jacket. Bring a couple of water bottles, snacks and loads of chat!

We never leave any one behind but please note this is a very big ride and you need to be experienced at cycling 40 miles on varying terrain. If you want to have any queries for example related to your bike suitability and fitness level please just message me.
