This is a SPOKES MEDIUM Pace ride, average speed 9 to 11 mph organised by SPOKES SW Herts Cycling Group. A challenging but enjoyable ride. 47 Miles from GX to Oxford., an additional 25 miles on the day if you ride from Watford to GX in the morning and back at night. From Watford it would be a great 72-mile day.
Ride to Oxford with PETER for a few hours site seeing, and early evening meal then train back to Gerrards Cross. Option of a led ride From Tasty Bean Cafe, Oxhey Activity Park leaving at 8.00 am, and back from GX in the evening. An additional 12.5 miles, each way. Place message in the "conversation" in this Let's Ride Post if you wish to join the led ride from Watford. Expect to be back at GX about 8.30pm. Lights and bike locks needed; we will be leaving our bikes secured to public bike racks while we explore Oxford, and we will probably be back at GX after lighting up time.
In a 15 or so miles section of the ride through the Chilterns we climb a significant number of hills, some of which are challenging. But after a refreshment stop at The Black Horse Pub, Lacey Green, (we are booked in)
https://www.theblackhorselg.co.uk/, there are very few hills and the absolute pleasure of about 7 miles on the traffic free Pheonix trail. The track leading to the Pheonix trail is a bumpy half mile but still ok for any bike, then the well packed cinder surface of the Pheonix Trail.
You may want to carry an energy snack for an interim roadside stop before we get to the Black Horse because The Back Horse is at about the 32-mile point for those cycling from Watford.
GX station car park £9 per day.
