A couple of years ago a Wandle Wander ride took place, where people made their way from Lewisham to Clapham Common and then cycled up the River Wandle to Morden Hall Park. We will be doing a similar ride, but this time we will go round in a clockwise direction. The River Wandle was once one of the most heavily industrialised small rivers in Britain. But the industry has now gone and it has been restored to its natural state and is home to the famous brown trout and wild birds. Unlike so many of the other tributaries of the Thames, the River Wandle does not disappear into culverts. We meet for this ride at the Park Life Cafe, Burgess Park, 3 Chumleigh St, London SE5 0RJ. We start by cycling up past Peckham Rye Common and Dulwich to Crystal Palace. You can also join this ride at the Cadence Performance Centre, 2A Anerley Hill, Bromley, SE19 2AA at 11.30am. We then make our way to Westow Park and cycle down through our neighbouring borough Croydon to Morden Hall Park. We will stop at the cafe there for lunch. We then return by following the course of the River Wandle to its mouth at the Thames. We then return through Battersea Park and CS5 to Burgess Park in Southwark, where this ride finishes.
