South Shields Marine Park

South Shields Marine Park (approximately 15 miles) This is a ride for women (adults only) who enjoy a social leisure ride and will go at the pace of the slowest rider. Starting at the National Glass Centre the route will follow cycle path along coast to Toney Minchella’s Cafe for lunch and then return the same way. The ride is free to join but please bring money with you if you wish to have lunch or some refreshments. The route is mainly traffic free but does have some road sections/crossings. It has some uphill sections which riders can walk if they prefer. The path is mostly tarmacked, however there are some sections with loose/dirt surface therefore a mountain or wider tyre hybrid style bike would be more advisable. Please check the website on the morning of the ride to make sure it is still going ahead. Important Information for riders Working front and rear lights are essential on this ride. A spare inner tube, pump, bike lock, helmet and waterproof clothing are all advisable. The role of the ride leader is to navigate the route and hopefully give you an enjoyable experience. They are not responsible for your personal safety as riders are responsible for their own health and safety at all times. Although the ride leader would try to help you if you got a puncture, they are not mechanically trained and are not responsible for assessing the safety of your bike or repairing it before or during the ride. Alternative travel arrangements would be necessary for you and your bike if a mechanical problem arose. Although the planned route is as stated above, it may be necessary for the ride leader to deviate from this route in an emergency or in unforeseen circumstances.
