Starting from - The starting point is at Bishopsmead South Brent. There is free parking in the car park which is small and often full. Past the village hall is a few spaces on the left or along the main road called Hillside where there are no double yellow lines. However i recommend turning into Bishopsmead where there is parking alongside the road on the right being careful not to block local peoples driveways. TQ10 9DJ

We leave South Brent on a quiet road to Avonwick then pick up the New Primrose Trail towards Diptford. We climb out of Diptford and have a rest at the top of the hill. We then stay on a B road to Morleigh and then take the busy road for half a mile before turning Left for Slapton. We will stay on this 5 mile lane until we get into Slapton Village.
We then head along the beach road for Torcross stopping to see the War memorial, WW2 tank and Billy Can Cafe. Our return is along the same route which is approximately 15 miles.

D-Day 80th Anniversary Ride from Soth Brent towards Slapton looking at the American Training area for the Normandy Invasion of WW2. We cycle mainly country lanes across the South Hams to an area of historical and AONB with quaint villages and scenery.

The preferred route is 90% on country lanes and a distance of about 30 miles. However a longer route 35 mls is shown which involves A roads (20%) which could only be attempted for smaller groups and covers the length of Slapton Sands from Strete to Slapton village. These roads can be busy and riders will have to pull in where necessary to allow traffic to overtake.

We will stop for a packed lunch at Slapton and visit a cafe. We will look at the war memorial, the American Sherman Tank, the beach, Slapton Ley and Slapton community park. I expect to have a stop for 15 mins on the way there and further rest stops on the way back.

A packed lunch and money for cake and coffee when needed. The usual helmet, spare inner tube, mobile phone etc

We never leave anyone behind
