By the sign at the entrance to the Old Railway Path on Brassmill Lane, Newbridge Road, Bath, BA1 3JN Alternate start from 10:30AM: Matty's Cafe, 15 St Peters Terrace, Lower Bristol Road, BA2 3BT

The perfect place to start if you're returning to cycling and a bit nervous on the roads. Starting at the Brassmill Lane Entrance to the Bristol Bath Railway Path, there's plenty of parking on the industrial estate. The ride is along the flat, and beautifully quiet shared use path, taking in views of the countryside to the West of the City of Bath. We cross over the river twice before we stop for a break at the Bird in Hand pub in Saltford. From there we turn around and return back to where we started.

Should the whole group still be enthusastic and feeling able, we have the option of continuing an extra 2 miles on to the Bitton Railway Station (and the buffet cafe serves a mean cake and coffee!). This option will put an extra 4 miles total on the route, and will only be taken if the whole group agrees.   OPTIONAL EXTRA For those who are comfortable with a short road ride (less than half a mile), and would like to be fully fuelled before we start, meet at Matty's Cafe at 10:30am. There is cycle parking at the rear, and I'll be giving bikes a quick check over before we set off. We'll cycle as a group along Lower Bristol Road, joining the cycleway at Fieldings Lane.
