A great ride for everyone from beginners, those returning to cycling or who just want to meet other ladies for a friendly social ride and coffee and cake. This ride is suitable for mountain bikes, hybrids, gravel bikes.. road bikes with skinny tyres may struggle on the uneven surface. This is a nice steady ride following National Cycle Route 423 along the River Wye to Symonds Yat village where we will stop for refreshments before heading back. The views along the Wye Valley are spectacular especially as we are now coming into Spring! There is some road riding at the beginning and end of the ride but both sections are reasonably quiet. The remainder of the route is on the traffic free Peregrines Path, although we will be sharing this with walkers, cyclists and dog walkers, there may be dogs off lead and we may encounter wild life such as ducks!
This is relatively flat route with a couple of ramps to ride up and down before the village, the surface is compact and a little gravelly in places but easy to ride. After the recent rain it may be a little muddy in places.
We will be stopping at Symonds Yat village for refreshments where you can get a hot or cold drink, cake or food at the Saracens Head pub, there is also an ice cream parlour and toilets.
Helmets must be worn and it's a good idea to wear layers and please bring a drink. Make sure you check your bike over before the ride and bring a puncture repair kit or spares and a bicycle pump if you are unlucky to get a puncture. Please bring money for refreshments and bring a mask for when ordering inside.
