We’ll begin this gentle 6 mile ride by passing many points of interest including the famous Norwegian Church, Senedd (home of the Welsh Assembly), Pierhead building, Roald Dahl Plass, Wales Millenium Centre and Techniquest. We’ll pass through the bustling part of Cardiff Bay characterised by the many bars and cafes situated there before reaching Hamadryad Park a 14 hectare site which includes features such as the sandstone sculpture 'Cader Idris' by William Pye and a seat called 'Ship in a Bottle' by Melissa Gibbs. On exiting the park, we follow the cycle path passing the Cardiff International Swimming Pool and White Water Centre as we approach Pont-Y-Werin (The People’s Bridge). This bridge was completed at a cost of approx. £4.5 million, opened in 2010 and allows us to access the other side of Cardiff Bay.
We’ll pass Penarth Marina before cycling across the Cardiff Bay Barrage for our final part of the ride. This tremendous engineering feat was finally completed in 1999 and brings us back to our starting location with stunning views over the Bay and perhaps the most important landmark – the Dr Who Experience!
Check out Pedal Power’s Cardiff Bay branch for bike hire. Located next to the Dr Who Experience they are open 11-6 on weekends and school holidays.
