Starting point

Merseyside
PR8 3QQ

Starting with gravel and hard pack through Ainsdale Pine Woods, worth visiting in its own right, the route follows Sustrans Route 810, passing behind RAF Woodvale and then crossing Formby Golf Course, and continuing adjacent to railway line into Formby village. Passing through the village on quiet roads the route picks up shared cycleway following the railway line to the village of Hightown. Continuing to follow Sustrans Route 810 through Hightown on quiet roads the route then emerges onto the Crosby Coastal Path which is a shared route into Crosby. Sand drifts onto the promenade making it challenging for cycling so this route branches off at Blundellsands to follow quiet roads to Crosby Leisure Centre, around the the leisure centre and a mix of quiet roads, and shared cycleway to The Bus Yard behind Crosby's Marine Lake.

Ainsdale Pine Woods to Anthony Gormley's Another Place is a lovely flat out-and-back coastal route.

We will be riding a mix of roads/paths on this route - hard pack through the forest, shared traffic free cycleways, and quiet village back roads. Everything is flat and suitable for MTBs, hybrids, gravel/CX bikes, and at a pinch road bikes.

A lunch stop is planned at the mid point at The Bus Yard, Crosby. We will of course pause along the way for refreshments that riders are advised to bring with them, and also for photo stops and any local history that may be of interest.

It is requested that all riders wear a helmet, these are mandatory for all children on the ride. Please also bring a spare tube for each of your bikes, all children must be accompanied, and bring snacks and drinks. Dress appropriate to the forecast on the day.

We never leave anyone behind
