Starting point

Lanarkshire
G73 3SA

Starting at Hugh’s Restaurant in Burnside, we head out to through Rutherglen and cross the Clyde at the Smart Bridge from Shawfield. We follow the Clyde Walkway east, crossing the Clyde again at Cambuslang and continuing to Newton. From there we continue along NCN 75 on roads to cross the Rotten Calder and then pick up the cycle path to and through Uddingston and on to Blantyre where we stop at the café. We then pass through High Blantyre which is identified as a cycle route but is on-road which can be busy. After climbing out of High Blantyre we follow rural roads which involves some moderate hill climbs. We peak where we join the NCN 756 and follow that back down to Burnside.
Please be aware that, despite the hills, this is an Easy-going ride. We will go at the speed of the slowest. This is not the route for you if you are looking for a fast road ride.

I describe this route as a leisure ride. We will not be going fast and the speed will be set by the slowest rider. It tries to avoid busy roads and make use of cycle paths as much as possible. We leave and finish at Hugh’s Restaurant, 270 Stonelaw Road in Burnside. The route takes us out to Rutherglen and on to NCN 75 (National Cycle Network route 75) on the Clyde Walkway. We follow NCN 75 through to Uddingston where we join NCN 74 to Blantyre From there we go through High Blantyre and on to pass by Dechmont Hill where we join NCN 756 to return to Burnside. You can view the route in detail at https://ridewithgps.com/routes/48604186

The route follows mainly roads identified as a cycle route or on quiet roads. Some of the on-road route is urban so please give parked cars a wide berth. The sections through Newton and High Blantyre are on-road and can be busy.

We will stop at the Livingstone’s Café which is at David Livingstone’s Birthplace in Blantyre. https://www.david-livingstone-birthplace.org/cafe. If anyone sees something they'd like to stop and look at, we'll stop.

This is Scotland and as we all know, the weather can be ‘variable’. Please check the forecast before leaving and come prepared. If the weather looks to be really terrible, the ride is likely to be cancelled.

First-timers welcome!
