Starting point
BL0 0QP
10.00 am at the long, white-fenced bridge in Irwell Vale. This is Aitkin Street.
Three rides in one - depending on what YOU want to do! The Official Breeze Ride begines at 10am at Irwell Vale. We follow the flat, wide path (NCN 6) along an old railway line to Stubbins, where we can call at a cafe. From Stubbins we continue to Nuttall Park - there is a short section of road riding here before we reach the park itself.
Distance from Irwell to Nuttall and back in total: 7 miles. A good beginners' ride, suitable for any bike, and children welcome.
But wait! There's more! Have you a Mountain Bike or Hybrid? Do you like a bit of a hill? Meet me at Musbury Fabrics, Helmshore, BB4 4NP at 9.30am and we can follow NCN 6 along the railway line, through Snig Holes and down into Irwell Vale. This is NOT suitable for under-16s. It's not a Breeze ride. It's got some tricky ups and downs, and it's muddy, and it's rocky. Contact me on 07595 873191 if you want further information. If you start and finish here, your total ride will be 9.5 miles.
But wait! There's even more! We have two ride leaders on this ride. There is a further option when we reach Nuttall Park. If anyone would like to have a go riding the bridleway onto Holcombe Moor, I will take the willing riders up while the other Champion will return with the rest of the riders. You don't need to decide in advance. We'll offer it as an option on the day. The Bridleway is very wide, well-surfaced and traffic-free. And it's STEEP. It's 1000 ft of climb in less than a mile. Fancy a challenge? This option will add another 6 miles onto your day.
So, whatever your level of fitness, come along!
Summary:
Musbury (Helmshore) - Irwell: informal ride, tricky, no children, 1.75 miles (each way). Meet 9.30
Irwell - Nuttall: Breeze ride, flat, traffic free, children welcome, 3.5 miles (7 in total). Meet 10am
Nuttall - Holcombe Moor: Breeze challenge ride, hardy souls welcome, 3 miles (each way)
As always, do bring a spare tube that fits your bike, and snacks/drinks/extra warm clothing/waterproofs. We ALWAYS go at the pace of the slowest rider. We'd love to see you!
