Rolling on up to Great Harwood

Another little evening ride to set us up for dinner and/or ease away the post-work aches and pains. This is an ideal bike ride for beginners but more advanced cyclists are more than welcome - think of it as a stretch of the legs and a good chance to meet other friendly people. We'll start at the car park and make our way along a stretch of the Hyndburn Greenway to the greens below Great Harwood. There's plenty of benches to stop for a drink/snack (bring your own) and enjoy the view before making our way back along the same route. It's a beautiful stretch of the Greenway with lovely views out towards the hills and plenty of wildlife along the canals. The route is mainly on traffic free cycle paths or alongside the canal. There is one very short stretch along a residential street - you won't notice you're there it's so quiet and is ideal for a social, easy going ride. You'll need a hybrid or mountain bike as some parts of the towpath can be a bit rugged and please check the weather beforehand - waterproofs and/or warmer clothes are a good idea, especially for our rest/chat stop. Other good items are a spare inner tube, cycling gloves and a helmet (if you don't have a helmet please still come along, if you decide you enjoy cycling you may think about investing in one for the future). As it's getting into Autumn it would be a good idea to have some lights on your bike, we're not expecting it to be dark but it could be dusky. This is a leisurely, traffic-free route and, as such, it is good for confident children. All under 16s must be with a parent and all under 18s must wear a helmet.
