This route will be reasonably challenging but worth the effort. It is aimed at those of you wanting a ride to keep up cycling fitness - maybe for upcoming sportives? So for this ride we will aim to move at about 13-14 mph on average on the flat (assuming no horrible headwind), and be able to pedal up the hills - but of course at a considerably slower pace uphill! We will regroup at the top of hills as needed. There are several ups and downs, particularly the initial climbs on the way out to Hook Norton and to Great Rollright. We should be rewarded with lovely views and villages along the way. The route (see map) will follow quiet lanes out of Shipston on Stour and up past Compton Wynyates, with a refreshment stop planned at the cafe at Wyatts Plant Centre & Farm shop near Great Rollright. We will head back on scenic lanes through Little Compton and Great Wolford. Please make sure your bike is in good working order with tyres at the right pressure and brakes working well; it's a good idea to bring a spare inner tube as well as your water bottle, plus a bit of cash for the coffee/cake stop too.
