Marygate

Shorter, slower paced, led cycle rides perfect for novices, older adults and people living with a disability or long term medical condition. Are you looking for a nice ride with not much climbing?  Look no further because you have found it!  Starting out from the bottom of Marygate next to the York St John Boat House it won’t be long before we have picked up the NCN 65 and will be heading out towards Skelton. The route is part of the ‘Way of the Roses cycle route’ 170 miles coast to coast route between Morecambe and Bridlington but don’t worry we are only doing 8 miles today! We will get views of the River Ouse, Clifton Park and Rawcliffe Bar Country Park on the way out to our midway stop at Skelton Garden Centre.  If you don’t bring your own snacks make sure you bring some money so that you can take advantage of the Maple Leaf Café’s homemade cakes and scones. From here we have 2 possible routes home, we can either travel back along route 65 so taking in the views we missed on the way out, or if we are feeling adventurous we could use the shared pedestrian and cycle path down to Rawcliffe Bar Park & Ride. From Rawcliffe Bar Park & Ride we will pick up NCN 65 and head back east to the finish of our ride at York St John Boat House. If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.
