Rivington Great House Barn, Bolton, Lancashire

This route is a perfect way to explore the tracks and trails around Rivington. The route stays mostly on bridleways and is quite rocky in places. It can get quite muddy so if you like splashing through puddles this is one for you. Starting at Rivington Great House Barn which is next to the Information Centre, we will head out along the tracks and trails. There are a few climbs along the way as we pass by two reservoirs and up to the back of Rivington and Blackrod High School. We will then cross over Rivington Lane, at this point there is a very short section along the road before we head off back onto the tracks and trails in Lever Park heading down towards Liverpool Castle. We then head along the reservoir to our final hill near Go Ape before heading back to the Great House Barn Café for a nice cup of coffee. The total length of the ride is around seven miles and the path is suitable for mountain bikes with sturdy tyres. Wearing a helmet is advisable, though not essential. If you have a spare inner tube great please bring one along but not to worry if you don't. It's always good to take a few layers to cope with our British weather and a waterproof is always advisable.
