Join us for a tour of Leicester to discover it’s notable women and those who were influential in the Suffragette movement, the most famous of which was Alice Hawkins. We visit the Blue Plaque sites, marking where they lived, worked and campaigned for women’s rights to vote for the social reform.

An active Trade Unionist and working in the shoe trade of Leicester, Alice would cycle around Leicester and Leicestershire speaking to crowds, not always receptive to her message! We visit the site of Alice’s workplace, Equity Shoes and also the sites of the Women’s Social and Political Union office on Bowling Green Street and the former Bond Street Maternity Hospital.

This is an ‘Easy’ ride of approximately 4 miles mostly on the flat and following many of Leicester’s off road routes. There will be several stops on the route at significant Blue Plaque sites, a narrative by the Ride Leaders will be delivered.

This is a great opportunity to learn about the cycling routes around the City and at the same time a fabulous opportunity to learn about Leicester's rich suffrage history

Period dress optional, but encouraged!

Helmets are compulsory for children under the age of 16. Children must also be accompanied by an adult.
