Join Ride Leicester Ride Leaders as we cycle around the city to hear how the Green Bicycle Case developed during 1920 - including a visit to the original Leicester Castle Court.

In our led ride of 5th July we described the events of the 1919 Green Bicycle Case and how the trail to find the suspect had gone cold. This ride picks up the story on 23 February 1920, seven months later when Enoch Whitehouse came along the river in his barge in the vicinity of St Mary's Mill. After his tow rope slackened it dipped into the murky waters before it tightened again, and Mr Whitehouse spotted a green bicycle frame being pulled up to the surface...

Immediately, the rope slackened, and the cycle frame dropped back into the murky waters. The bargee quickly made the connection to the newspaper reports of July 1919, and, more enticingly, perhaps, a £20 reward was still being offered by the Police for any information leading to a conviction.
.
We pick up the story from this point on our ride today. The old Leicester Castle Court will be open for our visit and we will be able to enter the scene of the trial itself, largely unchanged 106 years later, with the kind permission of De Montfort University.
