Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th May, a picnic in Hampton Court Palace Gardens, free to enjoy.
“Palace gardens will be open free of charge on the following dates throughout the year, with no tickets or pre-booking required. Entrance to the Palace, the Maze and the Magic Garden will still require a ticket.”
We will visit Waitrose at Kingston Bridge to pick up food and drink. To return by train, Hampton Court Station is closest and Surbiton has the quick and frequent trains, changing at Clapham Junction. I will go to Surbiton. Trains to East Croydon running as usual. We will ride to the picnic on the Wandle Trail and use a less steep way to Wimbledon Common, then on Richmond Common and the Thames Path to Kingston. Bushy Park and into Hampton Court Gardens.
There is a cafe. On Saturday I will be the naive, first time visitor. For Sunday I – and the Saturday people – can report on the queues. Personally, I’m bringing an empty flask and filling it with Waitrose coffee. The first cup is free to members. There is bike parking at the main gate.
We will start the ride at Queens Gardens CR0 1GY at 10am. We should reach Waitrose by 12:45 and Hampton Court is another 15 minutes. It is 18.6 miles.
Road bikes are ok on this route. Please bring a spare inner tube.
