Starting point

Durham
DL1 4WD

This ride is dedicated to Julien, a good friend and advocate of recreational cycling who died whilst out on a ride in late 2020.

Starting from the Beefeater at Morton Park, this ride takes us in an easterly direction, towards Stockton-on-Tees. We’ll ride through Redmarshall and Carlton and pay a visit to one of Julien’s favourite stopping points, the Wynard Woodland Park. The ride will then bring us along the cycle network through Stockton and towards the Tees Barrage, riding along the River Tees and back through the Preston Farm area. The final part of the ride brings us back through Elton and Long Newton on our return to the Beefeater.

This ride is classed as a CHALLENGING ride which is around 35 miles. The ride is undulating with some small hill climbs. The ride is all on the road or cycleways – all bike types are suitable. It is suitable for riders who are comfortable sustaining around 10mph avg. and can continually cycle for around 2 hours at a time. Any stopover points are usually around 1 hour. Bear in mind these times are a guide and the ride can take longer.
