Forecourt of Watford Junction Station, Station Road, Watford, Herts,

This fun daytrip will involve trains, the Thames and treats! We will see some lovely riverside homes and pass the most magnificent palace. Almost all of this route is traffic-free on the Thames Path, or on quiet roads. We start our daytrip at Watford Junction, boarding the 09.53 train to Imperial Wharf, arriving at 10.30. Feel free to join the train at Harrow and Wealdstone if it is easier for you. On leaving Imperial Wharf station (which has lifts for bikes) we take a short quiet route to the Thames, and cross Putney Bridge. After this we will be following the Thames Path until we detour in to Richmond Park, and out on to Ham Common where we pick join the river again for our ride to magnificent Hampton Court. There are many lovely places to stop for a quick lunch on the route, and we will be spoilt for choice. We will ride back into Richmond, where we will ride past the remains of old Richmond Palace - and see the largest wardrobe you can imagine! Riding past Richmond Green we will board a train at Richmond Station, for a quick journey to Clapham Junction Station. Here we change platforms (lifts are available for bikes) and take our direct train back to Watford or Harrow and Wealdstone. Trains leave Clapham for Watford once an hour. I cannot guarantee how long we will take (allowing for punctures etc!) but imagine we may be catching the 16.39 from Clapham Junction, arriving Watford Junction at 17.19. Please check your bike over the day before and bring - a lock, money, oyster card, inner tube, and water. The Thames Path can be bumpy in places so this ride suits hybrids and mountain bikes. .
