About this ride Join me for a mostly off-road (gravel) ride from Shoreham to Steyning. This is on the Downs Link, with a short tarmac stretch from Beeding to Steyning (avoiding high street).
How long is this ride? The ride length is 10.6 miles in total with +240ft in elevation.
What level of fitness do I require? This is a great ride to join if you are concerned about your fitness and haven’t been out on your bike for a while. It is a leisure paced ride at around 8 - 10mph with some undulation. We will always ride at the pace of the slowest rider and no-one will be left behind.
Is there a route I can look at? Yes – copy and follow this link - https://ridewithgps.com/routes/44834436?privacy_code=JvP1krYCiPKS703PuVEO29crOippT3zr
Is there a cake stop? Yes! We will stop halfway, in Steyning at Victoria’s Sponge for refreshments and a rest before turning around and heading back to Shoreham. The precise location of the cake stop using What3words, is: ///enacts.carting.factored
What kind of bike do I need? It is only suitable for mountain, gravel or hybrids with knobbly tyres. You can come on an e-bike if it has suitable tyres. Please give your bike a check over before you leave home.
Are the tyres pumped up? Are the gears and brakes working properly? What else should I bring? Always carry a drink, snack, money (or your phone if you use contactless), spare inner tube, puncture repair kit and a pump, just in case. Please come prepared for unpredictable weather on the day, and an extra layer when we stop so that you don’t get cold. Bring a lock for your bike. Wearing a helmet is advisable.
How long will the ride take? Assuming we set off promptly at 10am, we should be back in Shoreham around midday, allowing for 90 minutes riding and a 30 min refreshment stop. This assumes no mechanical issues.
