This bike ride is a shortened (30km) version of a featured ride in a recent copy of the London cyclist magazine. The ride starts at Rainham station and heads towards Rainham marshes. We’ll stop briefly at the RSPB Rainham visitors centre before following the Mardyke valley inland. We’ll pass by Brickiln Wood then Cely Woods part of the Thames Chase Community Forest. Our tea break will be at the Belhus Woods Visitors centre. We’ll pass by the Ingrebourne Nature Discovery Centre before ending the ride at Upminster station. About 20% of this ride is on unpaved paths. It is a ride for gravel, hybrid and mountain bikes. It is unfortunately not suitable for road bikes or Bromptons. Half-hourly c2c trains from Liverpool St to Rainham. 9.38, arr. 10.02 woulld be OK. Upminster has frequent c2c trains and District Line underground. Note non-folding cycles are permitted on the District Line. Fenchurch, Rainham and Upminster stations are all step free

Riders of all ages are welcome on Healthy Rides but under 18s must be accompanied by a responsible adult. Same for “adults at risk”. Always give way to pedestrians and to other cyclists so all path users feel safe. If you cannot make a ride, please cancel so that someone else can take the place. Remember things can, and do, happen on bike rides and we sometimes get delayed. It is therefore advised not to schedule anything to immediately follow the expected end time. This ride is part of a regular programme of Saturday rides, more information at https://southwarkcyclists.org.uk/healthy-rides/.

Visit Rainham Marshes and wind through the Ingrebourne Valley. Lots of off road, lots to see. Everyone welcome.

Plenty off road path (some may be muddy) also quiat streets and bits of busy road.

Several stops at points of interest plus one longer coffee stop.

Just yourself and your bike

First-timers welcome!
