Summer evenings are for cycling! This is a nice introduction to trying a longer pub ride. The route is mainly traffic free, taking the Bay Trail and Taff Trail as far as Glyn Taff Cemetery then a small section of road to the Otley Arms in Treforest. We can then cycle back the same route (good lights needed as the Taff Trail is unlit and the full ride will go past dusk) 5.30 Depart Penarth Leisure Centre, Cogan (34 mile return trip) 6.00 Summer House Café, Bute Park* (24 mile return trip) 6.15 Hailey Park, Llandaff North* (19 mile return trip) 6.30 Tongwynlais Primary School* (14 mile return trip) *These times are approximate and you must book on to the ride and text Claire Smith 0n 07838 390601 if you wish to join the ride at the Summer House or after. Please ensure you have previously ridden a similar distance to the ride, and wear appropriate clothing (layers, waterproofs), especially in view of it potentially being cooler on the way home. The ride is automatically tagged as challenging due to the length of the full journey from Penarth but this is a very accessible ride at an easily achievable speed. We will always cycle at the speed of the slowest rider. The Otley Arms is a good community pub that serves amazing beer and hearty food. It is 100 yards away from Treforest rail station if anyone wishes to imbibe and get the train home, or just to cut mileage! Our route home will be back along the Taff Trail and Bay Trail home. The Taff Trail is unlit and so you MUST have strong bike lights to be able to cycle this as part of the ride is likely to be at dusk or after (although you could take the train home if need be)
