Pedalling to Paxford
This is a ride in the south-western sector - an area I haven’t ridden in for quite a while. It’s only a 16 mile route, but we will be venturing into some hillier terrain than we have for the past couple of years.
We’ll leave Shipston on the Campden Road and cross the Fosse at Portabello, going via Stretton to Paxford, where we’ll stop for our coffee break. We will have to retrace our route slightly before heading over to the Fosse again, where we do a dog-leg crossing to Todenham. From Todenham it’s back on the familiar roads to Shipston via Burmington, Willington and Barcheston.
Don’t worry about the hills – I walk them if necessary – and we always wait at the tops for everyone to catch up.
The weather forecast is a little doubtful at the moment, but we can cope with a light Summer shower. Just come suitably clad and make sure your bike is in good working order, with tyres well pumped and efficient brakes. Even in daytime, lights are a good idea nowadays. The roads are lightly trafficked country lanes, but that doesn’t mean there are no speeding motorists and there are often heavy farm vehicles. A well fitted helmet is recommended, but is not compulsory.
Do bring water with you and money for the café stop.
