5 Rivers Leisure Centre

If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.

Come join us for a lovely cycle around north Salisbury’s tranquil countryside. Starting at the 5 Rivers Leisure Centre we cycle north parallel with the beautiful River Avon along winding country roads, through tree lined woods and alongside open fields with views of Wiltshire’s charming rolling hills. The route takes us through the quaint settlements of Lowe, Middle and Upper Woodford before returning on the east side of the River Avon through Salterton.and Little Durnford. We encounter fantastic views of the Old Sarum Castle, a settlement dating back as early as 3000 BC. Sarum derives its name from Sarisburia, the name given proclaimed when the original bailey castle was built in 1069, from which Salisbury also derives its name. On the ride we can also see views of the wonderful Salisbury Cathedral, boasting the tallest spire in the UK at 123m/404ft.
