(0) ReviewsThis is a gentle easy going ride with lots of stops to take in the spectacular scenery. It is aimed at (but not exclusive to) the 60+ age group who are either returning to cycling after an extended period away or for people who may be new to cycle touring. The aim is to promote fitness and build confidence as well as to enjoy a good social ride.
The route starts at Lydford and we will ride at a steady pace along the traffic free Granite Way (NCN Route 27). Being the old London and South Western railway the gradients are very gentle and should not cause any problems. We will skirt the edge of Dartmoor stopping regularly to enjoy the wonderful views of the Dartmoor tors, West Devon and on into Cornwall. After crossing the spectacular Meldon viaduct we will aim for Okehampton station where there will be a café stop at the Granite Way Café. We will return along the same route but with the option of a short detour to Meldon Reservoir.
The only requirements are that you bring a roadworthy bike, a helmet and suitable clothing remembering that we will be cycling on the edge of Dartmoor. Lycra is definitely not a requirement! For your own comfort you may wish to bring along refreshments, a light snack and money for the café.
We ride at the pace of the slowest rider and will never leave anyone behind.
