Shorter but not such a gentle ride this time. There are some hilly sections between Tavistock and Yelverton but remember - pushing holds no shame! The ride is aimed at (but not exclusive to) the 60+ age group who want to return to cycling after an extended period away or for people who may be new to cycle touring. The aim is to promote fitness and build confidence as well as to enjoy a good social ride.

The ride starts in the layby on the A386 just outside Tavistock from where we will join the traffic free Drake’s Trail near Whitchurch. We will ride through Grenofen tunnel (lights are optional) and on to the spectacular Gem Bridge. The first gentle hill takes us towards Magpie Viaduct and on to Horrabridge. The section from Horrabridge to Leg O’Mutton is notoriously steep so we will probably all be pushing by then. A flat quiet road section over Yelverton aerodrome gives us spectacular views over Dartmoor and soon takes us to the café stop at Long Ash Nursery. We will return along the same route where the pain will be forgotten and the hills will now become a joy!

The only requirements are that you bring a roadworthy bike, a helmet and suitable clothing remembering that Yelverton aerodrome is quite exposed. Lycra is definitely not a requirement!

We always ride at the speed of the slowest rider and we never leave anyone behind.
