Starting point

Tyne and Wear
NE30 1JQ

St Mary’s Lighthouse was completed in 1898 on a hazardous coast for shipping and remained operational until 1984 when it was superseded my modern navigational techniques. Since then, the Lighthouse and former keepers cottages have been operated as a visitor centre by North Tyneside.

Starting at the Red Port marker buoy artwork and after a quick bike check we will be heading north to St Marys Lighthouse following the costal route of NCN1 along the shared paths of Tynemouth, Cullercoats and Whitley Bay. At the lighthouse if we can get refreshments there, we will, if not we will stop off at a café on the way back using the same route.

This ride is also part of the British Cycling Lets Ride Through Winter campaign. Take part in 4 Guided Rides, Breeze or Community Rides starting 7th January until 26th February and be in with a chance to win some goodies.
