Meeting at the railway station car park, Kirk Sandall, DN3 1LL, at 10.15 am with a view to setting off at 10.30am.
This is a 21 mile ride (approx) on which we have ample opportunitiies for taking cafe and pub stops along the way, so we can break it down into manageable bite size chunks to suit whatever you fancy doing. There are 2 versions of the route available on the day, one that cuts out all the potentially muddy bits and one that doesn't.
We're going to head up into Kirk Sandall from the station before getting onto a cycle path that takes us into Edenthorpe, past Tesco's and through to Armthorpe. From there we find ourselves heading past Armthorpe cematery on a rarely used back lane leading to an off road track (that is only muddy ish for about 100 yards) which eventually brings us out at Ruane potatoes. From here we have our spli point, those wanting to avoid the muddy tracks will head out onto LIngs Lane and the residential streets of Hatfield, and Dunscroft, heading into Stainforth to meet back up with the mudddy riders at the end of Coronation Road. Muddy riders will join Carr Side Lane at the split point following this ultimately onto Cuckoo Lane which eventually delivers you onto Stainforth pit tip where, in spite of the new limestone surfaced bridleway, there are some muddy patches due to either water accummulation or vehicular use of the track. Oncce over this though its back to tarmac as we follow Thorne Road back into Stainforth to meet our clean dry riders at Coronation Road.
Happily reuntied we have a choice of cafe stop (if they're not on holiday) or pub stop at the New Inn, before then heading on towards Fishlake. Around half way along The Nab we come to our final split point of the ride, so muddy riders turn off onto a lane that delivers us into Fishlake via Far Bank Lane (which will no doubt be wet), and our dry clean riders head on into the village and turn off along Dirty Lane to meet up with the muddy riders at Eastfield Lane, wher we head past the old windmill and on to Fosterhouses and the ultimately the canal where we follow the TPT back to Braithwaite before departing the trail and heading into Bramwith, Barnby Dun, the canal once more and ultimately back to the rail station at Kirk Sandall.
The "dry" route is approx 1 mile less than the muddy route and will suit any riders not using a mountain/hybrid bike.
