Newport velodrome to Cwmbran

The route heads out of the International Sports village and follows the riverside north through Newport to reach the canal towpath. We then follow the canal to the northern end of Cwmbran before cutting across to reach the river. Then we can follow the river back down into Cwmbran and all the way to the boating lake. Then we follow the path to Bar Ten for refreshments.
After a short rest, we head across Cwmbran to reach the canal again and follow it south until we reach Pentre Lane. At this point, we leave the canal and follow the road out to Malthouse Lane which takes us to Ponthir. Then we stay on the road into Caerleon and pick up the cycle path to take us back to Newport. Finally we follow the riverside path again to get back to the velodrome.

The route is about 75% traffic free and the rest is quiet roads. The traffic free sections take us by rivers and along canal towpaths as well through Newport itself.

We will stop at the boating lake for a snack.

Please wear a helmet and bring along some money and a lock for the rest stop. It is also a good idea to carry a spare tube just in case.
