Starting point

NE6 1BU

Cycle Hub, Quayside, Newcastle Upon Tyne,

Option 1: There and back 18 m each way. Stop for lunch at Riding Mill. Option 2: Ride up and get the train back Should take approx 2 hours to get there at a fairly comfortable pace. A beautiful riverside route along the banks of the River Tyne, extending the Wylam route to take in Ovingham, Bywell and head just beyond that to Riding Mill, where the highly regarded Duke of Wellington pub offers a great range of food and drink. It is approx 18 miles from The Cycle Hub at Ouseburn to Riding Mill. At roughly 9 mph this should take 2 hours, but possibly less, at a fairly comfortable pace. There is an option to take your bike onto the train at Riding Mill if you just fancy the one way route. Bikes are allowed on the local trains. There are trains just before the hour (6 minutes to), every hour. It takes half an hour back to Newcastle The cycle route itself is mostly flat with very slight inclines here and there. It is mainly off road, but the National Cycle route 72 takes to quiet roads after Prudhoe / Ovingham. However, we only stay on the road for less than a mile before turning onto a country lane on the river's edge that takes us to Bywell, where we cross the bridge and take the cycle / pedestrian path on the edge of the road into Riding Mill for some food and drink. Free parking (all day) at The Cycle Hu
