Join us for a unique ride out to the National Trusts Stoneywell Cottage. Set in the gorgeous Charnwood countryside, this gem built by the Gimson family, leading lights of the Arts and Crafts movement has a wealth of original features, with everyday objects transformed into beautiful crafted items. Entry to Stoneywell is free for ride participants but if you are a National Trust member please do bring your membership card along to get it scanned upon entry. Ebikes are available to loan for this ride. These loans are free of charge and include a helmet if required. Ebikes must be booked in advance by 10pm on Wednesday 7th May at the latest, unfortunately any requests received after this date cannot be accommodated. Email ecycles@leicester.gov.uk to enquire about an ebike loan and a member of our team will get back to you. Please also ensure that you have registered for a place on this ride. Non-electric bikes are welcome but riders must be able to ride at a pace of at least 10 miles per hour and the route will include a steep hill as we approach Stoneywell. This ride and visit will take approximately 3 hours. Please bring an innertube if you are using your own bike and please dress accordingly for the weather. We are delighted The National Trust are supporting the delivery of this ride and further information about Stoneywell Cottage can be found at https://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/visit/leicestershire-northamptonshire/stoneywell
The ride is a mixture of cycle tracks and country lanes, but it should be noted the terrain is quite challenging in parts. The entrance to Stoneywell Cottage is on a timed booking and whilst the ride will be at a steady pace, participants should be comfortable riding at 10 miles per hour.
There is a great tea shop at Stoneywell so you will need to bring some money along if you wish to have something to eat and drink in the tea shop.
First-timers welcome!
