Starting point

Derbyshire
DE45 1GE

We will join the trail at the car park located at the Bakewell Station Car Park and then ride along the trail to the western end of the trail. On the way we will pass through the Headstone Tunnel, over the Monsal Head Viaduct, through the Cressbrook Tunnel and over the Millers Dale Viaduct.

At the western end we will stop for a drink/snack and hopefully observe the moonlight before returning along the trail to the car park.

On our arrival at the car park I will provide hot drinks for all riders - and maybe a piece of cake!

Route rating

An evening ride along the Monsal Trail by moonlight (cloud cover permitting!), covering a 16-mile round trip.

This is an 'off road' ride utilising the Monsal Trail route only. The general width of the trail is 3m, but some stretches may be narrower. The trail is generally in good condition but there may be some roots and branches and other debris on the trail after wind and rain. Care should always be taken and lights are required.

We will stop at the end of the trail for a drink and snack (please ensure you bring along with you). We will stop on the Monsal Head Viaduct to have a look over into the valley.

It is strongly recommended that helmets are worn. Riders MUST have good lights on this ride - it will be dark. A drink/snack for the halfway stage should be brought with you. Warm clothing appropriate to the time of day and year is also recommended.

All competent cyclists are welcome. If you are unsure about the suitability of this ride for you, please message or call me to discuss.
