Midsummer Picnic at Hardy's Monument

Let's celebrate the summer solstice by having an evening picnic at one of the highest points in Dorset!

NOTE: If you'd like to join us for the summer solstice picnic but don't fancy cycling up the hill to Hardy's Monument, you could meet us there as there is a free public car park at the top of the hill!

Heading away from Dorchester Leisure Centre, we will take the shared use traffic free path through woodland which brings us out on Maiden Castle Road. From there, we pass Maiden Castle on another shared use path (slightly rougher tarmac, but fine for all bikes & tyres) which takes us to Martinstown.
We then start the 2 mile steady climb up to Hardy's Monument, where there are fabulous views out to the sea and Portland. We will have a picnic whilst looking out at the views, before heading back down the hill and into Dorchester.

Please bring food ad drink for your picnic, as well as layers to put on in case there is an evening chill. Front and back lights will also be necessary as we will be returning at dusk.
