A wake-up call for those who think cycling from Southwark to Hampstead is a bridge too far.
This ride was invented by Barry Mason, founder of Greenwich Cyclists, coordinator of Southwark Cyclists and organiser of the Dunwich Dynamo. Although Barry died in 2011, this hasn't stopped this ride from continuing to happen each year since then - this is the 2013 ride report.
This ride starts at 3.45am at Bar Italia ( http://www.baritaliasoho.co.uk ), Frith Street. We start by cycling up to Oxford Street, through Regent's Park and then continue on to Parliament Hill, which we reach in time to watch the summer solstice dawn at 4.43 am. There is an unrestricted view to the east at Parliament Hill, which makes it a much better location to view the dawn than Primrose Hill, which has been the destination of this ride in previous years. At 5.15 am we cycle back to central London and stop off for breakfast at about 6.15 am at Bar Polo, 176 Bishopsgate, London EC2M 4NQ, near Liverpool Street Station, where the ride finishes.
Ride Leader: Nigel Bee (tel 07415 315 690 email [email protected]).
