Leverhulme Park Community Leisure Centre

This glorious 8.4 mile ride takes us through some of Bolton’s wonderful scenery and unknown sculptures. We begin at Leverhulme Park Community Leisure Centre riding past the Athletics Stadium and south through the park. Cycling in the suburb of Darcy Lever we meander our way down between the tree-lined off-road trail towards Moses Gate Country Park, viewing some of Bolton’s hidden sculptures and whisking past the River Croal. We cross over into Moses Gate Country Park and meander between the River Croal and the Manchester, Bolton and Bury Canal at Knob End. Here we cycle over the wonderfully constructed Meccano Bridge. Designed by Liam Curtin the six-tonne bridge is made entirely of 400 over-sized meccano pieces and 700 nuts and bolts. Over Meccano Bridge we continue along the canal, past Dingle Reservoir before turning north towards the outskirts of Radcliffe and then west towards Little Lever. Continuing on suburban roads we return towards Moses Gate Country Park taking an alternative route back through the park before returning through Knob End, Darcy Lever and back into Leverhulme Park. If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.
