The perfect easy going, social, lunch break ride!
Suitable for all bike types, fairly flat, predominantly quiet roads and cycle paths. We go as fast as the slowest rider, nobody gets left behind.
We’ll meet at the bike racks next to the main University Reception on King Alfred’s campus, setting off at 12 midday, heading off through the graveyard and onto St James’ Lane.
We’ll cross St Cross Road, go down Canon Street, College Street and Domum Road past the tennis courts, joining the National Cycle Network path.
We’ll stop for a 20 minute rest and natter at Handlebars Café, where people can grab a bite.
We’ll continue down the National Cycle Network path alongside Itchen, past St Catherine’s Hill, turning right on Five Bridges Road. We’ll join the cycle path briefly on St Cross Road, and head back to the University via Whiteshute Lane, Kings Avenue, Airlie Road, Sparkford Road and into The Dyche carpark (where any UofW staff joining the ride can lock away their bikes).
Parking on site is unfortunately staff only, but there are some 2 hour free spots close by in Stanmore.
Please make sure your bike is in working order and you bring a helmet.
Other recommended items include:
Gloves
Layers to keep warm
A light waterproof
Water/drink
Money
A spare inner tube (if you have one)
We normally tip over the lunch hour, so please allow yourself some buffer time after the ride to get to meeting etc.
