You don’t have to be the next Bradley Wiggins, but you’ll need to know your way around a bike and be fairly fit to take part in our Challenging rides. If you’re comfortable riding with other people and fancy a fresh challenge, these rides are perfect for you. They start at around twenty miles long, and are paced at between 11 and 12 miles an hour. This wonderful tour in the heart of Liverpool incorporates everything the City has to offer, from natural green space, off-road cycle routes and the scenic National Trust Proprty Speke Hall. The ride begins at the Mersey Ferries offices (Pier Head) Cycling through Duke Street we turn right past the magnificent Liverpool Cathedral and St James Mt and Gardens. From there we progress on the National Cycling Network route 56 through Toxteth, Princes Park and Sefton Park. The ride then meanders through Allerton passing Calderstones Park and towards Childwall before converting the roads to the traffic free Liverpool Loop Line of the National Cycle Network 62. The ride follows the NCN62 south to Speke bypassing the airport and through to the National Trust Property of Speke Hall. At Speke Hall we will have a chance for an extended stop to indulge at tearooms and enjoy the gorgeous scenery. Speke Hall is a rare Tudor timber-framed manor house in a most unusual setting on the banks of the River Mersey. Restored and brought back to life in the 19th century, it is a unique and beautiful mixture of Tudor simplicity and Victorian Arts and Crafts' aesthetics.
