40-45miles with a couple of lumps n bumps.

A very pretty route to Windsor Great Park and back, and an 8-mile pretty-much car-free tour through it. Some stretches of main roads are included too, so you will need to be confident riding in traffic. Quiet and scenic as much as possible.

Bushy Park, Sunbury-upon-Thames, Chertsey, Virginia Water, WINDSOR GREAT PARK, and back via Shepperton Lock. We can drop people off at Shepperton train station if they like (c.36miles).

We shall be aiming to average around 20kph/12.5mph* on the roads to and from the Park; and cycling more leisurely through it ... as it is so beautiful !

* this means that we shall normally be cycling along quite a bit faster - around 23kph/14mph.

We shall be riding altogether in a neat and tidy group (as far as possible, without being overly rigid), at pace of the slowest, and looking out for each other. No one will be left behind.

Savill Garden Kitchen is our café stop at 24.5miles. We will have a nice coffee/cake break here.

Please note that the route is not that flat upon approaching Virginia Water and the Great Park (!) but we shall tackle the hills and descents at own pace, re-grouping at the top/bottom. No one will be abandoned.

We shall be leaving Bushy Park through pedestrian gates, and returning the same way. So this route will not be suitable for special cycles with 3 wheels.

YOUR BIKE
Please ensure that your bike is clean, and in excellent working order.

WHAT DO WE MEAN BY A ROAD BIKE?
- By a "road bike", we mean a lightweight bike that characterised by drop handlebars and skinny tyres. Skinny road tyres will be max 28mm wide, not knobbly nor with a heavy tread. They used to be called "racing bikes". Flat bars are fine. A heavier old fashioned steel road or touring bike, is fine if on it you can comfortably maintain the speed of the ride. Clip-in pedals are preferred, but not essential on our Sunday Little Lanes 12.5mph Road Bike rides.
- What will NOT be a road bike will be a bike with tyres that are knobbly and/or wide (eg 32mm, 35mm, 40mm and more). These will include adventure, gravel, your commonly termed "hybrid" bike for commuting/town/shopping use, mountain bike. In very few cases, we have found that someone riding such hybrid bikes are able to ride at the advertised speed which makes it very awkward for all. The average speed advertised is the Strava average speed over the distance of the ride. To get a Little Lanes Road Bike Pass, please join us on our regular road hybrid and road bike Little Lanes Breeze rides; we will be able to tell if these 20kph/12.5mph+ will suit.
- So this ride is for road bikes please, and those riders on hybrids who have been given a Little Lanes Road Bike Pass.

DO BRING
2 bottles of water, a couple of emergency snacks, a spare inner tube. Also bring a very lightweight lock for your bicycle for the café stop.
