Starting from - Start point:
Dalkeith High School / Community Campus (first left at the traffic lights heading East after Aldi's) and just at the start of the large car park area within the school grounds (near the Sustans sign). Postcode EH22 2PS.
Car parking if you need to bring a car, is usually ok within the school grounds. Or nearby in local housing estate. As it's a week day the car park may be busy but you can also park at Sainsbury's and cycle along to the meeting point. There are toilets in the campus if needed (but please allow time for that so we can leave sharp at 10am), EH22 2AW

This is a steady flattish ride (333' of elevation and 11.5 miles) starting at Dalkeith High School Campus and taking the the Old Pencaitland Railway line to Ormiston for coffee.
Most of the ride is suitable for those with tyres that are slightly bigger / knobby as it is packed gravel for about 10 miles. And also very suitable for hybrid or mountain bikes. It is also suitable for road bikes with bigger tyres (30 or 32mm) or 'skinny' tyres but only if you feel competent and confident on the gravelly sections.
If it's been raining for days beforehand the railway line becomes a bit of a 'mudfest' so will assess nearer the time and will review.
When we are on the paths, we'll likely pass walkers, dogs and horses, maybe tiny humans on balance bikes, so please stay safe and keep other path users safe.

A shortish 11.5 mile cycle to Ormiston and back via the Old Pencaitland Railway line.

Mainly on the shared path on the Old Pencaitland Railway line, with some quieter roads also.

We will stop at Hoods Honey for coffee.

Please bring the following with you: Bike in good and safe working order and well maintained, a helmet, spare inner-tube / puncture repair kit, a bike lock if you have one, layers (including a waterproof incase of rain), card or cash payment if you want to buy anything at our café stop. We don't leave anyone behind but if you find yourself in a position of being unable to continue with the ride for any reason, for example in the event of a puncture / mechanical, then you need a plan for getting back home. And of course you will need a water bottle or two, some snacks just incase we dont stop for coffee (for what ever reason) and loads of chat!

First-timers welcome!
