Southampton Common
This is a glorious route that takes you through the stunning countryside of the north Test Valley including the quaint villages of Sparsholt and King's Somborne. The route starts centrally in Southampton Common, using the cycle paths to navigate your way out of the suburban landscape before entering the stunning rural countryside. Ride north of Baddesley and meander around Ampfield Wood before ascending up Nan Trodd’s Hill which is named after an Old Hursley name dating back to the 13th century. On reaching Sparsholt this makes a great place to stop and refuel. Descend down forking right towards Kings Somborne winding through the lovely country roads. Worzel Gummidge was part filmed in and around King Somborne which is another potential stop for “a cup o' tea an' a slice o' cake”. From there cycle south enjoying spectacular views across Hampshire, through Michelmersh and the outskirts of Kimbridge. Return on NCN 24 around Romsey and through North Baddles before entering back into the suburban landscape and towards Southampton Common.
