N.B. Coronavirus Advice, Please take time to read Government and British Cycling guidelines on group activities during these uncertain times. I would consider it prudent to carry a mask, gloves and a couple of plasters just in case.
About the route
Ferry – Antony – Millbrook – Cawsand – Crafthole – Top of Downderry hill – Sheviok - Ferry
On most Thursdays through the summer holiday period. (it may not run (or the day change) if there is a conflict with other Guided Rides dependent on rider take-up)
We will be cycling approximately 31 miles of roads and lanes on the S. E. Cornwall peninsular coast. Come along for around 21 miles of undulating Cornish coastline followed by around 10 miles of main road back to the ferry. There will be a refreshment stop somewhere along the way which may be a coffee and cake (14 miles) or, perhaps, a slightly more filling lunch stop (18 miles). Fully refreshed and rested, we will then make our way back to our original start point.
There are going to be some hills. The route, however, has been selected to avoid the steepest but at the expense of more continuous climbs and descents. This series of rides is aimed at riders looking to stretch their comfort zone and push themselves, particularly on the outward leg. Each ride should take about 3½ to 4 hours (including refreshment stop) so we will be looking for an average speed above 10/11 MPH. That said, it’s not about the speed as much as the attitude. Having a go is the most important thing. If it doesn’t work out the first time then it’s a lesson learned and you’ll look to be a bit fitter and stronger next time. The route is adaptable. If it’s not a good day we’ll stop more often, take a bit longer or perhaps take a short cut. We will never leave anyone behind.
All riders need to be sure their bike is in good working order and bring helmet, spare tube and pump. The coffee stop takes as long as it takes depending on facilities available, please bring your own snacks to the start where I hope to have more up to date information.
All routes are chosen subject to weather conditions although may be changed at short notice.
