Riddlesden

Join us on some amazing rides, created in association with our friends at the National Trust. Make the most of some beautiful countryside, and great facilities for cyclists. This flat, gentle five mile ride is sure to be a hit with first-time bike riders and families, following the traffic-free towpath of the Leeds Liverpool Canal. The ride starts at the 17th century manor house of East Riddlesden Hall, owned by the National Trust.  From here you'll make your way to the Leeds Liverpool Canal and, following the towpath, take in the delightful sights and sounds of the canal all the way to Bingley, where we'll stop to admire the famous Five Rise Locks. Built in 1774, the lock staircase is the steepest in the country, lifting narrowboats nearly 60ft over its 320ft length. The Five Rise Locks are a true marvel of the industrial age and a hub for tourists, with a cafe where you can rest and refuel before heading back along the canal to East Riddlesden Hall and journey's end. For more information on East Riddlesden Hall please click on the link below http://www.nationaltrust.org.uk/east-riddlesden-hall/ This ride uses part of National Cycle Network (NCN) route 696. To find out more about the NCN and other great places to cycle near you everyday, go to the Sustrans website (http://www.sustrans.org.uk/ncn/map/national-cycle-network). Not cycled for a while and looking for an easy way to get back in the saddle? Fancy a fun way to get your friends or kids riding? Our Easygoing rides are great for building confidence for all abilities and ages along relaxed, mostly traffic-free routes. They’re up to six miles long, with a gentle pace of around six miles an hour.
