A longer group ride than usual to celebrate a significant birthday for group member and our very own 'selfie & photo queen', Jayne! Hopefully as many members can join the ride to not only help her celebrate her birthday but to test yourselves over a longer than usual 60 mile route. A circular route starting from Town Green, Aughton through some great cycling countryside; a route plotted by Jayne riding on some of her most cycled roads and through some of her favourite towns and villages in West Lancashire (well it is her birthday!). If the distance is an issue, please feel free to join us for part of the ride or simply meet up at any of the planned refreshment stops for a gab and maybe some birthday cake!
The majority of the route is on hard surfaced main roads and some cycle and canal paths.
We are planning at least two refreshment stops; the first will be after about 24 miles at Twin Lakes Velo Cafe and the second at The Dolphin Inn at Much Hoole after approximately 35 miles although it is likely that we may take additional, unplanned stops due to the length of the ride. There may even be time for a stop at The Farm at Burscough for ice cream! (Lets hope the weather is a little warmer than of late!)
All riders will be required to wear a helmet and carry spare inner tubes and the means to be able to repair a puncture (assistance will be provided if required). Don't forget some money or your card for the cafe stop. Please also ensure that you are carrying a good supply of fluids, gels and energy bars (and jelly babies!)
This is a very scenic route in some excellent cycling countryside and there will be plenty of stops and photo opportunities along the way. We want everyone to enjoy the ride so it will be at a pace to suit all riders in the group and to take account of the weather conditions and the distance but usually between 9-11 mph. We will never leave anyone behind! This is a long ride so please ensure that you are equipped to handle a ride of this distance: plenty of fluids, energy gels and bars etc
