If you’re fairly confident on your bike and ready to broaden your cycling horizons, our Steady rides are ideal. At a comfortable pace, and possibly with some modest hills along the way, rides take place on mainly quiet roads with plenty of sights along the way. Rides are between 6 and 20 miles long, at a moderate pace of between 7 and 10 miles an hour.
This 7.6 mile ride gives a flavour of what Coalville and the surrounding area was like in the days of high coal production. Until the 1980s Leicestershire had a number of pits and sites for two of them can be seen on this ride. Stop and see the old Pit-head winding gear wheel in Ellistown. The whole winding gear tower for the former Snibston Pit can also be viewed along with the quarrying that is still a major industry. And you can do it while riding on Coalville's fantastic new cycling infrastructure.
