Starting from - Porteur cycling cafe, 210 Church Road, Hove, BN3 2DJ You can bring your bike inside this bike friendly cafe - there is safe bike storage inside, at the back of the cafe Kelly is in charge of the cafe side of things - with locally roasted coffee, wide range of teas, and lots of freshly baked cakes on offer, you might want to turn up early for some fuel for the ride and chat with other riders. Paul, the mechanic in charge of the workshop, can have a look at your bike if it's making a funny noise, and there is a track pump in the bike store to fully inflate your tyres before we ride out. Starting point

East Sussex
BN3 2DN

This is not a route for the faint-hearted! Hilly, and without a scheduled cafe stop, you need to be a confident rider, well used to using the full range of your gears and climbing as well as descending hills. Make sure you bring plenty of snacks and drink with you too. We start off gently from Hove, by heading along the seafront through Southwick and Shoreham. we then start to climb up the South Downs by followng Coombe Lane through Botolphs towards Steyning. We can pause in one of Steyning's tea rooms, or keep going - we'll see how we all feel at that point! From Steyning we head through Bramber and Upper Beeding then along Edburton Road eastwards, keeping the line of hills on our right. Once we get to Poynings we head back towards Brighton and Hove over Devil's Dyke. If anyone's too tired for more climbing at that point, we can head back into town along the flatter cycle path beside the A23. Please check your bike before heading out: - are both tyres fully inflated? - do both brakes work well? - is the chain lubricated? Bring a spare inner tube for your bike (easier to change inner tube than fix a puncture on the roadside, and all bike are different so you'll need one to fit your bike), clothing appropriate for the weather, and money for the cafe stops. Please arrive at the start point in plety of time - we may not wait for you if you're late. If you are delayed, contact ride leader Angela on 07908 228408 so she knows whether to wait for you or not. If you have any questions about the ride, contact Angela on 07908 228408
