Historic Churches - St Martin's, Charlton Abbots.

Starting at the village hall we head for Buckle Street which takes us to the ridge road above Naunton. This directly leads onto Grange hill (a steep descent.) We pass through Guiting Power, then there is a beautiful valley followed by a short challenging hill before Hawling. Then we cross the ancient Salt Way. This is followed by another speedy descent through Brockhampton. In Charlton Abbots (a collection of houses) is St Martin's is a small church which has been abandoned twice.The Victorian's restored it and now it had some pretty stained glass windows from that era. The church is a short walk from the road.Then there is another challenging climb up to Roel Gate where we join the Salt Way which has excellent views.We can enjoy another down hill to Guiting Power. We can stop here for refreshments, the village shop is very welcoming to cyclists and serves good cakes. Our final challenging hill is Bemborough hill. Then it is not far to return back to the village..

Historic churches. Over the course of the year some rides will stop at some interesting churches in the locality. We will spend about 5 minutes depending on the interest of the group. There is usually a collection box inside if you wish to use it.

A hilly circular route. This ride has plenty of climbs and some fast descents
